The Town of Stoughton is very pleased to announce the award of a $500,000 grant from the MassDOT Complete Streets Funding Program for sidewalk and roadway improvements on Washington Street (Route 138). This project will upgrade the existing sidewalk to be a 5-foot-wide sidewalk on the eastern and western sides of Washington Street between Monk Street to Lincoln Street (where Lincoln Street becomes 2 lanes).
This project will also add 5-foot-wide bike lanes and a landscape strip on both the eastern and western sides of Washington Street. ADA-compliant ramps and crosswalks will be provided at Washington Street's intersections with Avalon Street, Voses Court and at all crossings at business entrances.
This project will connect into the 2026 TIP project of sidewalks and bike lanes on Washington Street from the Canton town border to Lincoln Street (currently under construction). The intersection of Washington Street and School Street will be fully signalized. A special thank you goes out to the Engineering Department and Craig Horsfall for preparing a successful application package amongst a very competitive pool of applicants.
