This is the original 1928 Maxim Fire Engine used by the Town of Stoughton. It was purchased new in 1928 from the Maxim Company of Middleboro, Mass., was known as Engine 2, and served Stoughton until 1956. After that, it was used for fire protection at a monastery, as a water pumper for cranberry bogs, and for other purposes in other South Shore communities. It was partially restored over twenty years ago by Brockton firefighters Howard Briggs and William Donovan, who sold it to the Stoughton Historical Society in 2005. That purchase was made possible by a generous gift from local businessman Terrence Conroy. The Historical Society has raised funds to support its upkeep since then.
Joe Mokrisky of the Historical Society applied to the CPC for CPA funding for a full restoration, which was approved by Town Meeting in 2021. It has been beautifully restored to its original condition with the help of that CPA funding.
