Sewer Department

The Sewer Department is responsible for inspecting, rodding, flushing and jetting sewer lines in the town's sewer collection system. They are also responsible for maintaining the sewer pump station.

* Did you know that the "flushable" wipes are the biggest problem for our pump stations. The wipes don't breakdown in the short time after you flush them and end up wrapped around the impellor which puts strain on the motor. These clogs have to be taken care of by the Sewer Department otherwise there is risk of it backing up into a house.

On-Going & Up-Coming Events

Spring / Summer 2024 - The Sewer crew continues to Jet and CCTV the sewer system for Inflow and Infiltration. Doing this allow us to find leaks in the piping and manholes or illegal sump pump and drainage connection that allow clean water into our grey water/ wastewater system.  Items that are found direct us to whether we need to line the pipes or investigate and take action for the illegal connections. All flow is metered by MWRA and ends up going to Deer Island for processing.

June - August 2024   Weston & Sampson will be conducting investigations of the sanitary sewer system throughout the Town. The purpose of this investigation is to locate sources of groundwater entering the sanitary sewer. By removing the extra flow, Stoughton will reduce the amount of wasterwater it send to the MWRA.
