About LVM-Stoughton

LVM-Stoughton has been helping adults with basic literacy needs in the greater Stoughton area since September of 1998. One of 13 LVA affiliates statewide, the program was nationally accredited in fall of 2001 and offers one-on-one, confidential, individualized tutoring in basic reading and writing and English for Students of Other Language (ESOL) skills to Stoughton-area adults. Volunteers are recruited from the greater Stoughton area and trained in Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language tutors. Students and tutors are matched once the 18-hour training is completed and work at the library for 2 hours per week for a minimum of 1 year.
LVM-Stoughton is committed to:
  • Enabling adults in need of basic literacy skills to achieve their potential through one-to-one free instruction that is student-centered.
  • Training, supervising, and supporting LVM-Stoughton volunteer tutors and learners.
  • Strengthening and improving the organization's capacity to provide free literacy instruction and services to adults in the community.
