AMES POND

Ames Long Pond, located on Highland Street on the Stoughton/Easton border, is the location for the Town's supervised swimming program. Significantly removed from the hustle and bustle of downtown, the beach is located in a distinctly country setting. Bordered by shade trees, the beach area is a welcoming spot to beat the heat, especially for families with young children and senior citizens. Amenities include public bathrooms and a dock system. Water quality is tested weekly during the months of June, July, and August. The hours of supervision by certified lifeguards during the summer months are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

PASSES

For 2008, lifeguards will be on duty beginning June 21st. Passes are required for entrance into the beach area for all adults and children that are able to walk, and are available for purchase at the Recreation Office and at Ames Pond. Prices are as follows:

SWIMMING LESSONS

Our lifeguarding staff gives swim lessons at the pond for children ages 3 and up. "Tiny Tot" lessons are offered for children ages 3-5, and are 30 minutes in length. Swim lessons for older children are 45 minutes in length. Lessons begin at either 10:00 a.m, 11:00 a.m, or noon. For 2008, there are three two-week sessions to choose from: June 30 - July 11 (no lessons July 4th), July 14 - July 25, and July 28 - August 8. Lessons are held rain or shine, provided that there is no lightning. Prices are as follows:

1 session - $45 Stoughton Resident / $60 Non-Resident
2 sessions - $84 Stoughton Resident / $100 Non-Resident
3 sessions - $120 Stoughton Resident / $140 Non-Resident

Additional sessions are $30 per session. Prices include season passes for the child taking lessons as well as an accompanying adult.
